Susan Allen joined the Pew Environment Group to manage Our Ocean, a campaign to protect Oregon’s coastal legacy. The campaign is working to support a state process that will establish a limited system of marine protected areas in state waters, including some no-take reserves. These protections will restrict both bottom trawling and fishing for bait and forage fish.

Allen is a marine conservation representative on Oregon’s Territorial Sea Plan Advisory Committee and the Department of Fish and Wildlife’s External Budget Advisory Committee.

Allen began her professional career with the Oregon Department of Forestry in Klamath County as a fire lookout and later as a wild land firefighter. Before managing Our Ocean, she worked for several years in the Oregon Legislature for leaders in both the House and Senate.

Allen holds a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Oregon State University.
