Mathew Jacobson joined the Pew Environment Group in 2008 when the National Environmental Trust merged with Pew. He develops and implements outreach and campaign strategies for boreal conservation, primarily in Québec. He is also responsible for field organizing, generating media coverage and engaging policymakers to implement a plan for protection of 50 percent of Canada's northern boreal region and sustainable development standards on the remaining portions.

Jacobson has worked to protect wild forests for more than 20 years, serving with Preserve Appalachian Wilderness, Green Mountain Forest Watch, the Southern Appalachian Biodiversity Project, Greenpeace and the Wilderness Society. He previously helped secure the protection of the last U.S. intact roadless areas as deputy director of the Heritage Forests Campaign.

Jacobson holds a bachelor’s degree in English and religion from Tufts University.
